The very first thing we need to understand about church growth is that it is not something we can ever do by ourselves! While we do have the responsibility of casting out the net it is still up to God to grow His church! I like how paul puts it:
1 Corinthians 3:6-7
6.I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7.So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. KJV
As the leader of a small ministry group of boys I learned this very concept. We started out with two boys and I really didn't see how it would grow. But God showed me quickly that He is the one who makes a ministry grow. I was going to the meetings with the boys and seeing new faces all the time. I had no idea where they came from! Now I know that while I watered what God had already given He was working on the growth!
So before we can begin to really reach out to others we must first know that it is Jesus who draws all men to Him...we just lift Him up in front of them!
